Category Explanation

Theology

This is the primary category on this site, and at-present the only category with any content that requires a paid subscription.

This category includes Biblical expositions:

This category also includes

  • Book reviews of popular (or important) Christian books.
  • Gospel connections in popular movies and books.
  • Comparative religion conversations.
  • My own journey with Christianity and how my thoughts and beliefs have shifted over the years.

It also includes devotionals and exhortations:

  • Better understanding Scripture
  • Applying more of Scripture to more of our lives
  • Being better witnesses of Jesus in this world
  • What Christian love means and why it matters

Creativity

This is the second most populous category here. I used to have a second blog focused on this topic, but I wanted to be focused on one site instead of several. Creativity connects to Theology in the sense that “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth,” and “God created humanity in his image” (Genesis 1:1, 27). This means that we are glorifying God when we create–whether art, photography, fiction or nonfiction (and whether we are believers or nonbelievers).

Sometimes this category will also be categorized with Theological, but that will be the exception rather than the norm.

This category includes:

  • Writing tips
  • Fiction updates
  • Book reviews (fiction or writing)
  • Short stories
  • Writing prompts

Politics

This is a relatively new category to the blog. I’ve touched on politics before over the years, but I’ve only recently started writing posts directly related to politics.

This category is related to Theological because a religious worldview underpins everything else a person believes; even if I don’t link political posts as also theological, the mentality behind my political thoughts can be found in the Theological side of this site.

This category is related to Creative because American Politics need a creative reimagining. Insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results; the pendulum swings every four years with no true forward momentum. If we’re going to see true progress as a country, we need to reassess:

  • Our presuppositions
  • Our view of other people
  • Our morality
  • Our history
  • Our mistakes
  • Prophetic voices from the past

The political side of my blog looks at all of these things.

Education

Closely related to politics (which includes the same explanation of how Theological and Creative categories relate) is Education. The answer to our education woes in this country is not to burn down the education system, but to draw creatively from the bullet points above (on politics) and apply them to Education.

At present (2/25/25) I have not yet written anything specifically on education, though I do have a whole list of brainstormed topics to write. Once I start writing them, those posts will give birth to other ideas and future Education posts. (These posts were all previously tagged with “Substitute Teacher.”)

But the type of content coming in this category:

  • Classroom management
  • Homeschooling insights
  • English Literature guides
  • History of education

Our plan is to homeschool our kids, so I want to create curriculum that pulls from the best of both the public school world and the homeschooling world in an effort to give our kids the best education possible. Our oldest is 3 currently, so we still have two years, but there’s no time like the present to get started!
