If anyone says, “I love God,” yet hates his brother, he is a liar…
1 John 4:20, HCSB
You can also inadvertently lie by saying you’ll do something, but not follow up on it.
You see, if you were ever to view this page on Archive.org, you’d probably notice that a date keeps changing. It has changed at least four times, starting back in June 2024, and has changed every week this month. It changed again today.
I’m very sorry for repeatedly postponing this series, but I’ve finally reached the point where I won’t have to postpone it again. The first post (scheduled for January 29) will explain the purpose and methodology for the whole series, so I’ve been carefully looking through all my sources in an effort to guarantee rigorously focused expositions in the posts that follow.
The expositions will come out every other week until we get through 1 John (starting February 12). As I’ve mentioned before, the 1 John expositions are for paid subscribers only. I am making the first post ( January 29) available for anyone, in order to preview the direction of the series. I’m hoping it especially piques the interest of many who are dismayed with the present state of the church–especially the American church–and also of pastors who are in need of encouragement while faithfully ministering despite losing people to the church down the street–or worse–the church (split) presently within their pews.
In the introductory post (January 29), I will explain a lot of background material, including:
- the importance of this study
- the main point of 1 John
- my conversation partners
- the format of the study
- my outline of 1 John
Each point (subpoint?) of the outline will become a post of its own in the following months. I hope to keep each post to less than 2,500 words (for comparison look at this 2,499 word post), and in order to achieve this goal, I might have to break a post into two parts. I will do my best to prevent this possibility, but we’ll see what happens.
I thank you for your patience, and I thank you for considering joining me on this journey.
Subscribe to this blog today to get notified by email when this series starts (January 29). Make sure to select the FYTR Ministries Subscription Plan ($75 per year or $7 a month) in order to get access to the expositions of each set of verses in the following weeks. (The first exposition will be 1 John 1:1-4 [February 12].) Becoming a paid subscriber will also give you access to a free pdf copy of my Galatians commentary: Live Free or Die Lawfully.
Before I sign off, here’s a preview of my Introductory post (for 1/29):
“1 John is a book of assurance, but according to John, true assurance is impossible apart from the Church.”
I look forward to having you join me on this excursion through my first favorite book of the Bible.
In this with you!
Are you in it with me?
